(I may earn a small commission on the products linked to in this post.)

Whether it’s a holiday or birthday, Dust Mite Solutions wants to help you find the perfect gift to help the allergy sufferer in your family.  While toys and candy are fun to receive, they don’t last long and aren’t always practical.

Sometimes we receive gifts that we don’t really need.  As you search for a gift, we hope the following info narrows down your search for an allergy gift.

My Allergy Recommendations Are From Personal Use

In 2013 I was diagnosed with dust mite allergy.  I was devastated, then I began to realize I should be happy;  I finally knew what was making me feel ill. That same year, I asked for a few practical Christmas presents that would help with my allergy.

Some of the gifts I received, such as a dust mite mattress cover, HEPA air purifier, and dust mite proof comforter were some of the best gifts I ever received.

Ok, they weren’t fun presents to receive but they were awesome for my health. Why were they so great?  Well, they made sense and were items that made me feel better and made my lifestyle more hygienic.  I still use many of those gifts today.

Holiday Gift Ideas for Allergy Sufferers:

  • Dust Mite Proof Bedding (Pillow, Mattress, Blanket Cover)
  • HEPA Air Filter
  • Allergy HVAC Filter
  • HEPA Vacuum
  • Stylish Allergy Face Mask
  • Dust Mite Spray
  • Nasal Irrigation for Sinuses

The above gifts are awesome options if your family or friend suffers from dust mite, pollen, mold, or pet allergies.  Some of these products helped reduced my allergy symptoms.  They might also help your loved-ones reduce allergy symptoms such as:

  • Extreme fatigue
  • Eczema
  • Conjunctivitis

  • Redness

Best Gift Ideas for Allergy Sufferers

No. 1 Dust Mite Proof Bedding

If you know someone suffering from allergies, especially dust mite and pet allergies, you should consider buying a gift for bedding. People with dust mite allergy suffer the most in bed.  To help, dust mite covers can be purchased for the pillow, blankets, and mattress.

We recommend buying products only from the best allergy companies and those are Mission Allergy and Allersoft.  We’ve done separate reviews for pillows, mattresses, and blanket covers but for a holiday gift we recommend the Allersoft 100% cotton mattress protector.

It will protect from dust mite allergy, itching, and rashes.  In addition, it will protect the mattress and keep it looking new.  If you read additional reviews, you’ll see that this protector is the highest quality at a reasonable price.

No. 2 HEPA Air Purifier

If you’re familiar with air purifiers you might be wondering if they are really effective.  I used one in the 1990’s and I can honestly say it didn’t help me much.  Within the last 10 years, a number of companies have been established that work hard to clean the air in homes.  Last year I purchased my 1st HEPA air purifier and I felt better within days.  Better yet, the air purifier is made to run for 24 hours.

HEPA refers to “High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance”.  This means the filter is the highest quality on the market and captures all allergens including (pet, dust mite, pollen, mold).

Many of the high-quality air purifiers have multiple stage filters that also capture odors and bacteria.  They can totally clean a room in 2 hours and allow people with an allergy to sleep peacefully.

We really like the Rabbit Air Purifier Minus2 Ultra Quiet with HEPA filter.  Why do we like it? It comes at a higher price point but has a lifetime warranty.  Yes, lifetime!  It is great to manage all allergies including dust mites, pollen, pet dander, and molds.

No. 3 Allergy HVAC Filter

Most people suffering from allergies overlook their air conditioning and heater and that is a big mistake.  Growing up, I remember we used cheap filters that didn’t trap much dust. We rarely changed the HVAC filters as well.

After discovering I had allergies I bought Filtrete’s strongest allergy filters.  I turned on the vent in the house and left it on for a few days.  After only a few days I saw a color difference in the filter.  Strong filters work wonders for indoor air, similar to air purifiers.  You will also notice less dust to clean up in the house – an added benefit to using good HVAC filters!

Your loved one might not even know it, but if you get a strong HVAC filter he/she will likely be thanking you in the future.  If you’re interested in the best HVAC filters you can check out our review for Best HVAC Filters for Allergies.

No. 4 HEPA Vacuum

best gift for people with allergies

HEPA vacuums use the same strong filters as we discussed with the air purifier.  It’s important to note that not all vacuums are created equal.

Look closely when buying a vacuum for allergies. If it doesn’t say HEPA filter, then it won’t be capturing the allergens like dust mites, pollen, and pet dander.

Many mid-range and low-quality vacuums won’t have HEPA filters.  You should bypass them and search for HEPA vacuums.  Growing up, I used a cheap vacuum and after I vacuumed my room I would feel horrible.

That’s because the filter was porous and actually blew dust mites, pollen, and pet dander around the room.  Because these allergens are so tiny, they can stay suspended in the air for hours after.

Dyson is the industry leader and makes awesome vacuums that pack a punch. I use two: the cordless and the canister vacuum (pictured right). Many of their HEPA filters are washable so you don’t have to buy them again.  If you’re interested in a HEPA vacuum as a gift check out our review for best HEPA allergy vacuum.

No. 5 Stylish Allergy Face Mask For Exercise, Pollution, and Commuting

Did you know that allergy faces masks can have style?  In Asia, people wear face masks everywhere and in the U.S. you can see urban bikers or commuters wearing masks to protect from dust, pollution, and bacteria.

Masks are commonly used in the U.S. for working in the yard.  When I’ve seen people wearing allergy masks outside so few look good.  Have you ever seen an allergy mask that is both effective and stylish?

Enter Vogmask, based out of San Francisco, California. They came up with a great idea to make allergy masks both functional and fun.

They have a plethora of designs that can be worn for an occasion (ok, you won’t want to wear one someplace formal).  We like the Vogmask Chakra style but there are 20 different models and color schemes to choose from, for kids and adults alike.

If you have friends or family who are stylish and who live in an urban area, this could be the perfect gift.  It’s even good to wear these masks when you are sick to protect others from catching your cold.

No. 6 Dust Mite Spray

Numbers 6 and 7 are the most basic gifts for allergy sufferers.  Dust mite spray is available as organic options and usually, their main ingredient is essential oil.  We like EasyAir 16 oz organic spray to use to neutralize pet and dust mite allergens.  Because it uses organic compounds, it can be sprayed in bedrooms and on beds.

I am very careful about what I spray in my room since I am sensitive to chemicals.   I  actually prefer to make a homemade DIY spray that I use as a cleaner, air freshener, and surface dust mite killer.

If you like the hands-on gift, consider making a DIY dust mite spray for your family member (DIY spray).

No. 7 Nasal Irrigation to Rinse Sinuses of Allergens

Have you ever hear of nasal irrigation?  How about Neti Pot?  If not then you might be missing out on more clear sinuses.

Nasal irrigation works by running liquid through the nostrils and into the sinuses. It is a strange feeling to adjust to, but if used correctly it can significantly help with sinus-related allergy symptoms.

I use a nasal rinse in the winter and summer when allergens can be blown around the house by central heating and fans.  The nasal rinse helps clean my airways of allergens which makes me sleep better.

I really like the NeilMed Sinus Rinse because it’s simple to use and really works.  There are also high-end electric models like Navage (pictured right) that are mess-free and use suction to rinse and clear out build up.

>> NeilMed Sinus Rinse Review (our recommendation)

If your loved one is having a hard time with sinus allergies and has rhinitis, post-nasal drip, or snores at night because their nose is congested, try a nasal irrigation product for fun.  It’s interesting to learn and might have lasting benefits.  I know many people that swear by them and use it 2x a day.

No. 8 Dehumidifiers Are Essential for Indoor Dust Mites and Mold Allergies

You might be wondering why dehumidifiers are good for allergy sufferers.  Well, if you happen to live in a humid region of the world, it can cause all kinds of problems including mold growth and dust mite population booms!

Many people with allergies don’t even understand why they are suffering but once they get allergy tested they can take steps to improve their environment.

If you know someone suffering from environmental allergies, consider a dehumidifier to help them feel better during the summer months.  A moderate relative humidity has shown to decrease mold growth, discourage dust mite populations, and is better for people with asthma and skin allergy (rashes, eczema).

Dehumidifiers come in various sizes. Some, like the Frigidair FFAD7033R1 70-Pint Dehumidifier, works great for large areas like a basement and can improve humidity in the entire home.

We also like the smaller dehumidifier for bathrooms.  If on a budget, the Pro Breeze PB-02-US Electric Mini Dehumidifier can help reduce moisture after bathing which lessens mold growth.

No. 9 The Best Non-Drowsy Medication for Allergies

Occasionally even the toughest people succumb to the symptoms of allergies.  A few times each year I get congestion, fatigue, and rashes that I attribute to an allergy outbreak.  Usually I’ll try to avoid medication, however, I will use over the counter pills to help control my symptoms when they are bad.

If you know someone with allergies, you know that they likely rely on allergy medication too.  So why not give them a give you know they will use?  We’ll even offer the best medication for allergies….it’s Allegra!

>> check price of Allegra on Amazon

I’ve tried nasal sprays, eye drops, Zyrtec and Claritin.  The one allergy pill that works best for me is Allegra.  They offer a 24-hour pill that has a non-drowsy formula and I take it in the evening before I sleep so I wake up well rested the following morning.

Other brands can leave you with that drowsy feeling but not this tablet.  If you like giving practical presents or need a stocking stuffer, consider the gift of health with the best medication for allergies.
